Technical Background Document: 3ivx D4 4.0.3

New Features

QuickTime
* 3ivx is now used to play Apple MPEG-4 in QuickTime resulting in serious
performance and quality gains.
* 3ivx is now used to play all DivX media resulting in quality and
performance gains
* 3ivx now accepts YV12, IYUV and I420 pixel formats resulting
in performance gains over YUV422 pixel formats
* 3ivx now accepts Component Video pixel format

Core
* 3ivx can now decode newer Sorenson MPEG-4 encodes.
* Compilation changes result in greater speed on some systems.
* Work-around for FFmpeg non-multiple of 16 bug
* Work-around for XviD build 0000+ streams with non-multiple of 16 bugs

DirectShow Decoder
* DirectShow Priority pane allows setting of codec priority and enabling of various compatibility decoders
* DirectShow Decoder Config shortcut


Bugs Fixed

DirectShow Decoder
* Fixed an issue with ATI graphics cards and non-standard widths
* Decoder config shortcut now works

DirectShow Media Splitter
* AAC in .mov now works
* D4 Splitter does not attempt to attach to AC3 streams

Core
* YV12 input format works again
* Encoder no longer executes SSE instructions on non SSE machines
* BSPlayer no longer freezes
* YV12/IYUV/I420 respects the row_bytes/span setting
* YV12/IYUV/I420 now works with widths which are not multiples of 16

QuickTime Codec
* Component Video can now be encoded

Windows QuickTine Codec
* '2vuy' output format works again

Mac QuickTime Codec
* Mode menu no longer shows wrong menu


Known Bugs

DirectShow Media Splitter
* MP4/MOV files with track offsets play out of sync

DirectShow Audio Decoder
* Complex AAC audio muxed with MPEG-4 video causes a crash

Video for Windows (VfW) Codec
* FFmpeg encoded multi-bframe clips cause a crash when stepping in
VirtualDub

Core
* Possible chroma MV problem with XviD encodes result in a subtle green
tinge with some clips. Currently not sure if the problem is in XviD or
3ivx.


Permanent Issues

Core
* XviD streams prior to build0000 (ie up to and including 0.9 stable
series) with non-multiples of 16 are not MPEG-4 compliant and exhibit
occasional glitches. There is no work-around.
