How to Export an MP4 file from iMovie

This guide will show you how to export your video to the MP4 file format using 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0.1 and iMovie.

iMovie is the fastest and easiest way to turn home movies into dazzling Hollywood-style hits.

Step 1 - Exporting

Choose 'Export...' from the iMovie's File menu.

Step 2 - QuickTime Expert Settings

In the QuickTime tab, select 'Expert Settings' from the 'Compress movie for:' pop-up menu.

Then click 'Share'.

Export to 3ivx

 

Step 3 - Select the Destination

Type in a name for the video clip you are going to create and select the location where you would like to save it. Select 'Movie to 3ivx MPEG-4' from the 'Export:' popup menu, then choose 'Options...'.

Step 4 - Video Exporter Settings

From the "Set to Template' drop down box choose the desired template and quality level. In this example we have chosen 'MP4 - iPod MPEG-4 (3ivx) - Best'.

If you are happy with the template settings, Click 'OK' and proceed to the next step.

 

If you wish to customise the Exporter Settings you can use the Format, Video and Audio Tabs located under the Template drop down box.

Step 5 - Start the Encoding

Click 'OK' and 'Save' to start encoding

 

Once the encode has finished you will be able to play your MP4 file in any QuickTime compatible application or on any MP4 compatible device.
